Heartbreaking

Our boy just didn't have it. Today. (Or yesterday, I can't remember anymore!)

I leave the television on in our room all night in hope that I could get up at 3:30AM to watch some of the "meaty" races and Olympic events. Of course, last night, I slept straight through! The one night I really wanted to see a performance. Our local athlete, Adam Van Koeverden was in the finals of the 1,000M.

By the time I woke up at 7:00AM, it was all over the coverage: He came in 8th. There were 9 participants.

Heartbreaking.

I took this from the CBC website:

"I just didn't have it," a distraught van Koeverden told CBC Sports after the race. "It's a hell of a time not to have it. It's the worst 1000 metres I have put together in years."

He paused for a moment then looked directly at the CBC television camera recording the interview. "I'm sorry," he said, addressing viewers. "I don't know what to say, I'm pretty speechless right now."

Gotta love a guy who will own it. Look straight into the camera and acknowledge his screw up to the oodles of us at home rooting for him. Truly willing him to win ... even if we were sleeping!

Ah well. His "specialty" is the 500M. Crossing fingers that he, the world champion he, shows up for that one!

Still love him to bits.

My heart breaks for his frustration.

I was watching it on the news and immediately thought of you! Heartbreaking, yes. And I agree, he owned it. Still proud of our Canadian boy!
