This is your brain

on music.

Last week I ran into my friend Sue at Chapters. She was crazily running errands as her youngest is now in pre-school. I remember the days. A whole 2 hours of free time three days a week. But, free time was never "free" just frantic as you try to cram as much into a short period of time as you possibly can. I'm thrilled she took the time to talk to me in the check out line.

She was there buying a birthday gift for her brother, a book: This Is Your Brain on Music.

I'm married to an audiophile. Truly a connoisseur of music. If you want Louis to express an opinion, bring up music as a topic. He is very passionate and knowledgeable. These conversations can be exhausting and stimulating; often at the same time!

I was so excited to find something to buy him - that he'll like!

As I was sitting here watching Canada AM (our version of Good Morning America) this morning, the author, Daniel Levitin, was being interviewed. He's come out with a new book: The World in Six Songs. TWO books for Louis! My Christmas shopping is complete.

Bonus, you have to love this review:

"This is the worst idea for a book I've ever heard - it makes me want to vomit. The idea encapsulates the very worst part of Western thought. It makes a purely Socratic distinction about something that isn't intellectualizable." [One week later:] "I take it back - I'm sorry! This is great!"
— Joni Mitchell

Enjoy your day. I'm off to Chapters to do some shopping!
