Joanie's Blog Challenge

Some of you may know that I belong to a message board - a virtual playground for a number of lovely, gifted, kind and creative women. I've always read, sometimes participated in but have not been a part of the Blog Challenges. I'm going to give it a try.

This is Joanie's challenge:

Imagine that you have just joined a club. It is a FAVORITES book/cd club. When it is your time to make a suggestion you should suggest a book and cd that is your favorite –the one that you really connect with. Your goal is not to please the group but to convey something about yourself with your selection. Select the one book that you really connect with for whatever reason. Select the album/cd that you would keep if you were only allowed one for the rest of your life. Along with your selection please explain why.

I have been much tortured by this challenge. Louis is an audiophile - we have a few thousand LPs; more than a few thousand CDs; and, an external hard drive FILLED with music! What in the world would I consider my favourite? To top it off: I was, many years ago, an English major. Victorian Literature. Holy smokes. Out of it all , what do I choose? What was the best? More to the point ... what could I read over and over again? What could I listen to over and over again?

I think I've finally got it!

Music has always played a HUGE part of my life. I took voice training for 8 years and even with that, I know I couldn't listen to a vocal performance only. So, after wracking my brain for DAYS, I've decided that the only choice is music by Iron & Wine. I was introduced to them a few years ago as they played on the soundtrack of a lovely Dennis Quaid movie: "In Good Company". The sound of Iron & Wine appeals to my primal nature. If I could, I'd figure out a way to link a song. I'll carry on and if I do, you'll find a link!

Books are my passion. I am surrounded by them and cannot escape our local Chapters store without an armful of precious tomes. If I had only one book, I suppose I should bring some kind of manual so that I could spend my time mastering something (my current challenge is Photo Shop Elements!). Instead, I'd bring a Bible. It is a tremendous book which changes as you age and experience life. The Bible I read in my youth is not the Bible I read now and will not be the Bible I read in years to come.

So, my torture is over. Thanks Joanie. I had to think hard this week!

Oooh, I found a good link: http://www.myspace.com/ironandwine check it out!

Lee, there is so much about you I don't know. I am glad you did the challenge -you are an interesting person. Thanks for the link to Iron & Wine. I think I need to pick up a new cd! ITA about the Bible/Torah. What you said about it changing with age is perfect.

I am so amazed that the Bible has the ability to do that! Everything we need to know - right there. For any occasion. Love it. Thanks for sharing. Oh - and the I & W...cool.
