A – apples: specifically Cameo apples. My sister introduced them to me when I visited her a couple of years ago in Arlington, VA. They are not overly sweet; very firm not mealy. Hard to find up here in many stores, but when I do, I buy a dozen and think of my sister every time. It is a nice memory.
B – brain gym: What a brilliant program! I was introduced to this a few years back when Cole was having trouble learning to read and concentrate. I started getting serious about learning it when Caden was in the hospital. What a lifesaver. I’m thinking about becoming a certified trainer if I could find a program that works in my calendar.
C – children: Claire, Cole, Chloe and Caden. It turn out there are plenty of things I love in my life that start with ‘C’ but these are the four “things” I love best! They add such joy and frustration to my existence … couldn’t imagine life without them.
D – driving. I love driving. I love seeing the country, taking detours, exploring new areas, seeing new sights and sounds, eating new foods, meeting interesting people, listening to new accents. Fill the tank, put the top down and I’m off. Life is the journey, right?
E – exercise. Embracing the endorphins! Not losing anything, not gaining anything except energy. I had forgotten how much I enjoy power walking. The iPod is all charged up, sneakers are on and I’m off on various explorations of Bronte.
F – Frozen Ropes. Our business. Training baseball and softball players from age 3 to elite is fun and rewarding. Their parents? Sometimes, not so much. But, every day is an adventure!
G – grateful. I have a small group of very good friends for whom I am tremendously grateful. They give me strength, understanding, love, encouragement and kindness.
H – hockey: When my life is not about baseball it is about hockey. We spend a ton of time – and $$ - at Canlan Ice Sports in programs, camps and private lessons. Love it. Love watching my children improve and master something that was at one time “too hard”. They have such a sense of accomplishment.
I – images: As in google images. This blog would not exist – in it’s current form - without it!
J – Joy. This is the way I choose to live my life. I am not blindly joyful, it’s just that I make every effort to see the joy in those events and people around me. every. single. day. Every once in a while I require a reminder. I’ve recently received the reminder that not everyone chooses joy. I do.
K – kitchen. My favourite room in the house. This is where my family congregates daily and our friends gather not often enough.
L – laundry. I’m a control freak. A true A-type who has been quashed by the four children under the roof. The only place I am able to truly embrace my nature is in the laundry room: everything must. be. perfect. Loaded a particular way and folded a particular way. Stay out of my laundry room. Love my perfect laundry. Now if I could only get the kids to put the perfectly fluffed an folded clothing in an equally perfect fashion!
M – Mayer, as in John. What a talent. Truly. So young, so thoughtful, so tremendous. Love me some John Mayer.
N – nectarines. Yum. Just bought a few the other day and they’re gone already!
O – Oprah. Who does not admire this woman? I don’t always agree with her, but boy, what a powerhouse! Truly altruistic. She does so much good for so many. Awareness, questions, energy, ideas. Brilliant!
P - peony. Specifically the white variety. My favourite flower, ever. My screen saver. My new business logo. I’m looking forward to planting some this spring.
Q – quiet. I find myself turning the radio off while in the car alone. While on the computer in the kitchen I have been turning off the TV in the adjoining family room. I really enjoy the quiet. The time alone with my thoughts and ideas.
R – relax. rest. restore. These are things I really have to learn to do, not quite my “favourite” things but I’m working on it.
S – Scrapalicious I can see me spending plenty of time and money at this place! What a thrill it was to meet up with my good friend Lorraine at the Open House on Friday evening. And, surprise, Holly was there! A few years back we were Creative Memories consultants at around the same time. She is so tremendously talented. I’m thrilled to have re-met her!
T - time. I enjoy organizing time. I live by my calendar. I schedule out our vacation a year in advance. There are certain events we refer to as “command performances” which happen annually and that time is set aside – with anticipation and joy – to be savoured.
U – umbrella. See the one in this post. Love it. Ordered it. Ordered more than one!
V – vacation. Though a bit long (9 weeks + depending on the school), I enjoy my kids vacation. We go away, they go to camp, we have barbeques and day trips. I enjoy getting to know my kids and letting them get to know me.
W – weather: The great Canadian past-time is watching the weather, talking about the weather, anticipating the weather, reporting on the weather. I participate daily and can almost read a weather map without anyone yapping at me what it means!
X – X-Acto Blade. One of the best tools I have in my workshop. Now that I’ve actually learned to use it! No more bandaids required.
Y – yes. My favourite word to say to my kids. They don’t hear it too often – don’t want any brats around here – but I’d far rather say yes than just about anything else!
Z – Zielske: as in Cathy, a tremendously talented woman. I enjoy learning from her every day. There was a time I thought I actually spoke to her on the phone. Turns out I was “punked” (truly bad, bad, bad, joke ... la la la ... choosing joy, choosing joy.) I digress: I will be meeting her in Buffalo next month and I’m really looking forward to learning from and speaking to her in person!
