Mother's Day Weekend

In our world Mother's Day is celebrated all weekend long! My sisters (Bryn, Beth, Andrea and Natalie) all come home with their husbands and children and we spent our time catching up and marvelling at how well all of the little cousins get along and don't destroy anything!

Saturday started with a bridal shower for my step-cousin Carolyn. Carolyn Watts is a lovely woman who, while a student at McMaster, helped me with my kids on Wednesday afternoons - I got much appreciated help, she got much appreciated money - it was a brilliant situation! We met Andrew, the groom to be, way back in those days. He then stole Carolyn away and they took off for a year in Japan teaching English to students there. They are a lovely couple and I wish them all the happiness in the world.

After that, my sister Beth and her family made the trip to Oakville for a barbeque and visit the new house. Can you believe I have NO PICTURES of their visit! Too busy having fun and enjoying the children. It was so nice to have them visit. My kids simply adore their cousins Spencer and Greydon, uncle Jamie is a hoot and auntie Beth is lovely. She is also their standard for growth. The big question: am I bigger than auntie Beth? Once they are, I suppose (to them) they've entered adulthood! Beth is about 5'1". I'm glad they're using my sister as their unit of measurement as Jamie is 6'5" - I'm afraid they'd never feel grown up!

Sunday brought Mother's Day. This is a Command Performance at my Dad's home in Toronto. An annual event which is not to be missed. And who would want to? We drink great champagne and wine, eat delicious food, visit with fun and charming family (who we don't see nearly often enough) and catch up. The kids are always busy in the playroom and behave pretty well. Amazing what a tie can do to a boy! This year was a bit different as Claire, for the most part, elected to eat with the adults. We must have proven to be a bit boring as, after a while, she disappeared and headed off with the rest of the cousins.

For me, this is the official beginning of summer. It has become one of my favourite occasions of the year, one I look forward to and am sad when it ends.

The next Command Performance? December 20th for our Currie Family Christmas. Can't wait!
