3/4 Gone!

Mudley (Cole), Moe (Chloe) and Bug (Caden) are gone. Back to school.

Filled with excitement and anticipation. They cannot wait to see old friends; make new ones. Their enthusiasm and bright-eyed delight cannot be dimmed. Last Thursday we went to the school and picked up their class/teacher assignments. They have been placed in classes with people they don't hang out with; a teacher they don't know; a split class (both boys); but not a complaint heard from any of them. They have figured out that it's best not to pre-judge a situation. I'm so proud of them all!

This year, in an effort to be more responsible, they are NOT bringing new school supplies, they are making do with "old" calculators, geometry sets, highlighters, backpacks, lunchbags, etc. And, *gasp* not a new school outfit to be found! The weather is still warm enough to wear summer clothes and I'll get what they need, when they need, rather than when social norms dictate.

I'm still the crazy mother who shed a tear in the car on the way home. NEVER on the blacktop. The kids (my babies) are so excited about a new beginning I don't want to crush their enthusiasm by being "mum". Can I tell you how wonderful it is to have kids in grade 6, 4 and 3 and still get a PUBLIC kiss goodbye? Wow :)

I share in their sense of anticipation. THIS week, the first week of school is, to me, my New Year. Even in my old age I continue to use an academic calendar to keep track of our happenings. Though, not a hint of fall in the air this morning, the atmosphere is calling for great marks and fun field trips all year!

Claire doesn't start her new school adventure until the 8th. Another opportunity to cry in the car on the way home!

I'm not the only mom that doesn't buy school clothes?! I get strange looks from people, but like you, I buy what they need when they need it.

I'm so impressed. Mine is only in 2nd grade, and I can't get a public kiss from him. :( Clarissa kissed me with no problems, but she's in kindergarten...and she's a girl. Enjoy your day home with only one!!

Just today I was thinking that my daughter didn't need the extra colouring crayons and markers since the ones from previous years still look good. Next year, I'm doing that for sure. It's so sweet that your kids still kiss you in public (especially boys). I feel the same way about September, it's my "new year" too.

See? I am not the only one that sheds a tear when the babies start the school year!!!! Too sweet!
I love the idea of "old supplies"....since Nathan is only in Pre-K and he didn't need a whole lot this year, I will have to get supplies next year - but maybe they will hold over into the next.....

August is the beginning of my NEW YEAR - school started here August 4th....so I totally understand your logic with the beginning of the year being in September!!!

Great idea girly!!! :)
