Medal of Survival

There is a photograph in my kitchen as a reminder of those days of spit up and dirty diapers and temper tantrums and scraped knees. My kids were 5, 4, 2 and 1 and it was the first time in six years the kids and I spent two whole weeks with Louis, we were on holiday in Cape Cod.

That picture is my medal of survival.

Memory is a good thing: at this point the kids are 13, 12, 9 and 8, I can barely remember how hard it was, I do remember all of the joy of that time.

I know that my parenting journey has just begun and right now we are enjoying a blissful lull in an otherwise bumpy ride. Which you, dear reader, get to experience right along with me! Only the occasional need for a proverbial slap upside the head: Caden writing letters of apology for being a goon on the ice, Claire spending too much time on MSN and risking her marks; Chloe refusing to eat food that is not a carb; Cole freaking about his voice changing one minute and proud of it the next. Follow the bouncing ball.

I do prefer the bouncing ball to the teething and spit up!

This post was prompted by my morning blog hopping which brought me to Shannon's Rocks In My Dryer blog which sent me over to her article at Parenting.com.

Love this picture - I have a similar one in my scraproom and attached to it by a ribbon is an old pacifier - A nice reminder that time slips by and we must live in the now! :) (My kids are 13, 11 and 10 now)
