Around here we are pretty eco-aware.
I mean, we, in this house.
Louis and I have put steps in place and into practice habits that we've passed along to the kids. I think we do pretty well. I found it funny that though we do things like:
turn off lights, reduce our time in the shower, run the dishwasher before we go to bed, buy no canned goods (except soup) to buy more glass, use the garbeurator, wear things more than once, set the temperature at 68 in the winter and 78 in the summer (easy in the winter when we wear an extra sweater; not so easy in the summer!), use towels more, recycle the newspapers and cardboard,
my kids didn't "get it" until it was on Oprah the other day. They recognized in the show what we've been trying to do at home. We're not telling them to turn off the lights, TV, computer, whatever to deprive them. We do it to be responsible. Because we don't need it.
We are going to start the "Live with Less" challenge when Claire gets back from Montreal. I think we can do it. It incorporates other things that I think are important: less waste of food, money and time, in a structured way. Bonus: since it's endorsed by queen Oprah herself, I won't get as much flack since she has way more credibility than mama!
What do you do in your house that is eco-aware that you find isn't done in other homes? What extra stuff do you do that makes you feel good? How do you live with less?
