Road Trip: Detroit

As any regular reader of this blog knows, Cole made it onto the Oakville Rangers AE Minor Pee Wee Team. As a congratulatory gift, my dad (aka Grampy), arranged for Stanley Cup Finals tickets in Detroit - the day before the game! All plans were dropped and on the road they went!

It's about a four hour drive door-to-door. Clearly too much for Cole!

Here they are, waiting to go through customs. I was so worried giving Louis the camera. I didn't think he'd take any photos. He's proven himself to be an admirable ScrapbookHusband and took all of these shots (except the first one).

Cole got to meet the legendary Gordie Howe. He was so excited. They had a nice little chat and Cole bought a book for Caden and Mr. Howe signed it. Once Caden "opened" it, the book was moved to a place of honour in the library.

Cole is a defenceman. Nikolas Lidstrom is a defenceman. The difference? Lidstrom is the captain of the Detroit Red Wings!

Waiting for the game to begin! (Wow, Louis even asked to have a photo taken of the two of them together - even I don't do that!)

There he is. Sydney Crosby. You have to admire anyone good enough to make it into the NHL. But, he would be hard pressed to find any fans in this household.

The opening was spectacular!

The ceremonial dropping of the puck - former captain to current captain. Mario Lemieux and Sydney Crosby; Steve Yzerman to Nikolas Lidstrom.

Then the game began.

They had a GREAT time. Detroit won this, the first game in the series, 4-0. It was a long drive home - the boys walked in the door at 3:30AM. Well, rang the doorbell because mistakenly the door was locked when the rest of us went to bed.

Thanks, Grampy. What a great experience!

What an awesome experience, Lee! It looks like the boys had a wonderful time.

And how exactly does one get a Scrapbook husband? Mine won't even let ME take pictures of him...much less actually take some when he's with the kids.

Oooohhh... Thanks for the Sidney Crosby eye candy! Sidney has at least one fan over here...

Glad Cole had such a good time!
